What are the factors affecting LED backlighting brightness?

In the display field, LED backlighting is the main form of backlighting used in TFT displays today.LED backlighting is thin, light, power-saving, and long-lasting.There are three important parameters for LCD backlighting: brightness, colour coordinates, and uniformity. The luminance is the LED backlighting brightness in cd/m2. In the production process of backlighting, the brightness will inevitably vary due to the influence of many factors.

There are many factors that affect LED backlighting brightness, mainly including the following:

1. Differences in the LED itself: Brightness range deviation of +/-3.5% (the selected chip itself has differences in brightness, assembly process and other factors will also cause brightness deviation).

2. Current
Normally, the brightness of the LED will increase with the increase of current within a certain range, but exceeding the rated current may lead to heat, shortened life, or even damage. In addition, if the current supplied by the power supply or driver is unstable, the LED brightness will also fluctuate. Therefore, using a constant-current driver power supply can ensure the brightness of the LED is stable. In addition, voltage also affects LED backlighting brightness, and if the voltage exceeds the safe range, it may damage the LEDs.

3. Temperature
The LED backlighting brightness decreases as the temperature rises because temperature affects the energy gap of semiconductor materials, resulting in a lower compounding efficiency of electrons and holes, which affects the light output.

4. LED chip quality
LED chips of different materials and structures have different photoelectric conversion efficiencies, which in turn affect LED backlighting brightness. High quality chips usually have higher light output. In addition, the larger the area of the LED chip, the more light can be produced under the same current, so the brightness will be higher.

5. Working Environment
The higher the ambient temperature, the more difficult it is to dissipate heat from the LED, resulting in a higher junction temperature and thus lower brightness. In addition, humidity may also affect the life and performance of LEDs, especially in harsh environments, which may affect their luminous efficiency.
