TFT (thin film transistor) LCD (liquid crystal display) has the advantages of low cost, sharp colors, acceptable viewing angles, low power consumption, easy-to-manufacture design, and slim physical structure. TFT LCD displays are widely used in televisions, computer monitors, medical, home appliances, automobiles, information kiosks, POS terminals, low-end mobile phones, ships, aerospace, industrial instruments, smart homes, handheld devices, video game systems, projectors, consumer Electronic products, advertising, etc. For more information about TFT displays, visit our knowledge base.

TFT LCD

There are 4 types of TFT LCD technology. let us see their characteristics and applications.

In-plane switching(IPS )Type

IPS TFT LCD can reduce the amount of light scattering in the matrix, so IPS has wide viewing angle and color reproduction characteristics. In addition, IPS TFT displays have the disadvantages of lower panel transmittance and higher production costs, but these shortcomings do not prevent their use in high-end display applications that require excellent color, contrast, viewing angles, and clarity. picture.

Twisted Nematic(TN )Type

TN type TFT LCD display is one of the lowest cost LCD display technology types. TN-type TFT LCD displays have the advantage of fast response time, but have poor color reproduction and narrow viewing angles. The color also changes depending on the viewing angle. So there’s a serious problem with perspective.

Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment(MVA ) Type

.The MVA has a wide range of single-domain VA technology and is used in monochrome LCD displays, which can provide a pure black background and better contrast. The uniform arrangement of its liquid crystal molecules allows the brightness to change with the viewing angle. And it can make the brightness of the LCD display appear uniform over a wide viewing angle range.

Advanced Fringe Field Switching(AFFS )Type

AFFS (Advanced Fringe Field Switching) delivers superior performance and high-brightness color gamut. Color casts and deviations caused by light leakage are corrected by optimizing the white gamut, which also enhances white/gray reproduction. Another notable feature of AFFS is that it can better optimize power consumption. Most notably, AFFS has high transmittance, allowing less light energy to be absorbed within the liquid crystal layer and more light energy to be transmitted to the surface. AFFS is used in high-end LCD applications such as high-end mobile phones.

Therefore, most industries will choose IPS, while mobile phone production will choose AFFS.
